What is the ON Community Advisory Board (CAB)?
A group of community members that help us bring the community to the next level and make sure that we always serve in the best interest of the community. It doesn't matter how many hours you can dedicate, how many projects you can contribute to - be honest, be open, be unafraid to say no to us! You'll be the group to keep us on the right path, to be the beating heart of ON, to make sure that the work we're doing is leading to the best version of the community, that our members can get the most value from.
Who will be in the CAB?
- ON Community members (jointly Ops Stories, COOhort, and COO Stories)
- Representing all levels of operations professionals
- A diverse and inclusive group considering culture, gender, race, age, and disabilities
How can you join the CAB?
You can volunteer to become involved. If you’re interested, answer these questions:
- Why do you want to get involved?
- How much time could you dedicate per month?
- What excites you most about the community / where do you think you could create the most impact?
What are the roles of a CAB member?
- Give us feedback on:
- The day-to-day running of the community. Are we doing a good job? What should we stop/start/continue doing? What can be improved?
- Our ideas for the future and how to implement them
- Share your thoughts and perspectives on making the community work even better for everyone
- Help us find the issues and concerns that we should be addressing.
- Be the link between the community and the ON team; the “voice” of the people, and the advocate for the community
- Assist in sharing information, and help to get the community excited and interested
- Potentially provide your support and knowledge on specific projects
What responsibilities does a CAB member have?
- Give time and effort by participating via private Slack group (asynchronously) or in meetings
- The best platform(s) for participation will be decided by the group
- Accept others’ ideas
- Support us with your opinions and thoughts
- Hold us accountable
- Support us with individual projects (only if you have the time!)
How much of a time commitment can you expect as a CAB member?
- 6 months, after which you’re more than welcome to reapply.
- You can opt-out at any time if you get too busy! We’ll check in with you every 2 months to see how you’re getting on.
- At least several hours per month for async communication in the private Slack channel and perhaps attending an odd meeting. If you can dedicate more time, that will always be welcome!

How will we work together?
- We’ll be open about our roadmap, what we want to achieve, and how you can contribute to it.
- We will never ask you to take on more than you’re comfortable with.
- The first CAB cohort is responsible for defining it for the future cohorts. We would like you to decide how much you want to contribute to the group, and how, as well as what you’d like to receive in return. This includes choosing an official name for the group. (ON puns are not required, but as you can tell, we do appreciate them.)
- After 2 months, we’ll check in with the whole group to share feedback about working together, and discuss proposed changes.
What projects are expected in the near future?
- Define how the group is going to work together
- Help with revamping our Slack structure to work best for the community
- Give us feedback on our roadmap
