Experience of Event (more details on what someone can expect their experience to be) | A relaxed, celebratory evening where ops humans come together to mark 5 years of ON - more like an “ops family birthday party” than a professional networking mixer (with good vibes, shared stories, and a sense of belonging)
Everyone’s welcome to show up as they are, whether you come solo or with fellow members, just bring yourself.
They can expect:
- A warm welcome on arrival, drinks in hand, and friendly faces
- Name badge prompts and icebreakers to help them connect
- Light bites, cupcakes with candles, and a birthday moment (yes, we’ll sing!
- Casual summer games on the terrace (weather permitting)
- A “Story Wall” to share shoutouts, wins, or what ON means to them
- A group photo and a few light hosted moments, but no pressure to perform or speak
- Ambient music, summer energy, and space to move freely between mingling and moments of celebration

PREVIOUS ONniversary context:
- Mik noted that the timing restriction with the headshot cafe was slightly difficult at the previous anniversary due to taking people away from the main activities. Mik suggested consideration for future events if the headshot cafe is included again.
- Mik recalled that the previous event focused on connection and included prep work where attendees selected their stage and received different colored stickers. Three rounds of targeted prompts were used to encourage interaction among people with different stickers. The organized connection activity at the last anniversary was around 25-30 minutes and received positive feedback for helping people connect with new individuals. Bre noted that while many people opted into the activity, some did not, and there were other engagement options like photos.
2025 ONniversary discussion & WIP ideas:
- Bre suggested incorporating a more explicit birthday celebration with cupcakes and candles for everyone + emphasized communicating when organized activities will occur so attendees know what to expect.
- Iulia also proposed name badges with taglines like "Ask me about..." to encourage icebreaking, but was unsure if it was the best fit for this specific event. Becky liked the icebreaker idea but suggested the prompt be more celebration-focused rather than work-related (like prompts related to past birthday experiences for example, to tie-in with ON’s 5th bday anniversary).
- Mik suggested creating a short video featuring people speaking about their experiences with ON over the past 5 years.
- Bre emphasized the desire for a celebratory and playful atmosphere with organized fun and space for individual interaction.
- Bre will sing happy birthday at the anniversary event.
- Bre and Iulia will follow up with the team for more anniversary ideas and then consolidate them, determining resource needs, and plan registration Qs to align with the event experience.
- The group will think about incorporating summer vibes and outdoor games on the terrace for the anniversary event.
- The group will consider creating a communication channel (e.g., Slack or WhatsApp) for registered anniversary attendees to connect beforehand and receive announcements.
LET’S VOTE on the suggested ideas below (add a thumbs up emoji):
- “open mic” section around sharing a quick win, story, or unexpected lesson from their ops journey since being in the ON community (would this work in the terrace maybe? worth investigating the capacity and sound quality with a mic) - have a physical sign-up board at the venue & a roaming mic and/or team to facilitate - focus on storytelling and sharing, rather than conference panel + out there idea: Let people nominate each other to speak (adds surprise + community feel)?
- Bring the mic outside on the terrace briefly for 1–2 shares with a casual toast
- Create a “Story Wall” — cards or posters where folks attending can:
- Write a short ops win or ON shoutout - helps quieter voices be heard as well
- Respond to prompts like: “My wildest ops workaround…” or “What ON has meant to me…” - add more
Other ideas:
- Slack channel (or whatsApp community for public use too) for those who are signed up, start the party before the in person party! ON to add prompt questions each week leading up to the event to connect people.
- Outdoor games in the terrace area - summer outdoor wedding vibes i.e. giant jenga, cornhole etc (would work well for casual mingling esp. if people can take their drinks out there too.), hula hooping, wooden skittles, ring toss
Becky notes: - Prep & Ordering here
- After party? any update/ what’s left to do?
- Story wall? what’s happening with this
- Work.Life:
- Outdoor terrace games (assuming we just confirm with work.life)
- Candles for cupcakes
- Labels/pens for allergens
- napkins, cups, plates? etc
- Confirm mic / screen set up + seating seat up & outdoor terrace access
- Place for food
- Seating set up
- Fridge access
- Music? (Who’s got a Spotify playlist?)
- Buckets for ice?! (how much space is there)
- Raffle from Partners (what’s needed), how is the raffle being drawn
- Name badges? stickers/dots/questions not sure what we’re doing
- Slack channel for ONniversary hype?!?
- Photographer
- Speech / Presentation to be made - Aušrinė / Charlene
